Search & Destroy

3 05 2010

I’ve been in a blogging funk lately.  It’s not that I don’t have anything TO blog…I just haven’t had the desire to actually do it.  Call it being in a rut, or being lazy, or whatever you want.  All I know is two weeks is too long to be in any kind of rut.  To knock myself out of it and get back into blogging, I did what I always do when I’m feeling creatively blocked.  I put on some music and see where it takes me.

Last night I was listening to a cover of the Iggy Pop classic “Search & Destroy” and sifting through my massive inventory.  Lo and behold, a look started to emerge influenced directly by the music blaring in my ears.  It’s a bit glam, a bit punk, a bit rock and a lot fashionista.

Valentine Arcadia

14 02 2010

I’ve had a lot of fun putting together some different looks for this Valentine’s Day, and I have one more left that I want to talk about.  Because today is my rl birthday, I thought I’d put together a look that is more me than anything else I’ve done recently.  It is essential Arcadia, a look that is sexy and alluring, but not too revealing.  It is a look that is a bit dark, a bit enigmatic, and also a look of contrasts.  That pretty much sums me up, I think.  Putting this look together was so much fun for me, and the look started with a dress from Gothicatz.

Valentine Darkness

9 02 2010

Valentine’s Day takes on a whole different feel when I let the dark side of my personality come out to play.  You definitely won’t find any candy hearts in this post, nor anything pink. *looks pointedly at Gabby*  I wanted to go dark and a bit sinister today, maybe a little mysterious.  This look was all about indulging that inner darkness while stretching my wings, both stylistically and photographically.  The Feather Dress from LeLutka seemed like a good place to start.

Dream Ink

24 01 2010

I’m going against the norm today and not blogging any clothing.  I’m not blogging about jewelry, or shoes, or hair and I’m not blogging a new skin, either. Today, I’m blogging a tattoo.

A few weeks ago, my friend Aldwyn Zanzibar approached me about a project he was thinking of; a tattoo showcase of sorts where we can all show off the ink we wear in world.  That project never got off the ground, but I loved the photos I took for it so much I just had to blog them.

Tattoos serve a myriad of functions.  They can be symbolic or just for fun.  They can be intricate or incredibly simple.  They can be works of art where skin is the canvas and you marvel at the brush strokes of the creator.  In RL, I have three tattoos.  In SL, my options are limitless and tattoos have become a third category of accessories in my inventory.  They can add flair or strength to the right outfit; they can add an edge of sexiness to a look.  I have a lot of tattoos in SL, but my favorite is a full body tattoo from Dream Ink Design.

Donations & Dressing in the Holiday Spirit

12 12 2009

It was around this time last week that my friend and terrific DJ, Maht Wuyts, was in the middle of his 26.2-hour mahrathon set to raise money for Heifer International’s Eastern Uganda Umbrella Project.  It was an extraordinary event and quite possibly the longest dj set in SL history (that we know of anyway).  Maht was hoping to raise 100,000L during the event and I’m happy to say that we surpassed that goal by about 36,000L.  As promised, he’s given me the donation screen shots to share with all of you.

I was awake for a good portion of the overnight hours,  and then again during Saturday afternoon handing out items and generally making sure Maht survived the process.  And despite the crazy hours, I have to say it was a really fun event.  I’m so thankful to have been a part of it and thankful to all of those who donated, no matter the amount.  Raising that much money in SL is not an easy task, and it took the generosity of a lot of people to make it happen.  Maht was able to get some RL donations as well, which he added to the money he raised in world for a grand total of $600 USD.

Maht does plan to do this event again next year, but in the meantime you can catch him every Sunday at the Velvet from 3 -5 p.m. SLT.  Thanks again to all of you who attended, donated money, and to the designers who gave us items to hand out.

Speaking of those designers, one of the people generous enough to give me items specifically was Sanura Snowpaw of Dreams.   She has a ton of great stuff in her store; everything from clothing to collars, shapes to skins.  I was feeling very xmas-y today and on a whim put on my most recent purchase from her store.  It ended up inspiring a whole outfit, which I thought I’d share – a little holiday spirit neko style.

Strange As Angels

13 11 2009

Though there are all sorts of fun items for sale there, I’ve long considered Balderdash to be one of the best jewelry stores on the grid.  Saiyge Lotus makes unique and beautiful pieces of wearable art and it’s obvious she puts a little bit of herself into each creation.  Her latest set is called Strange As Angels and it is really quite lovely.  Saiyge was kind enough to gift me with this necklace and earring set in all of its colors, and I knew that I had to put some outfits together to showcase the versatility of this wonderful design.  For the first look, I decided to channel my business partner and go purple but with my own urban flare, of course.

Can A Vampire Be Kyoot?

25 10 2009

**Edited to correct pose information**

There are times when a certain item immediately catches your eye, and you know instantly what you will do with it.  This happened to me several months ago as I was shopping in Kyoot.  I hadn’t been to Kyoot in quite some time and had decided to go and see what was new.  While shopping, I saw something white out of the corner of my eye and immediately turned and walked toward it.  Before it even finished rezzing, I knew it would be perfect for Halloween.  I was not wrong.  Straight Jacket Surrealist brings the Halloween to Couture. The only thing left to do was buy it and figure out which direction to take.

As I stood in the loft going through my inventory trying on this and that, I began to brainstorm.  My first thought was maybe a Mummy, so I added the Boxer Arm Wraps from Urban Dare.  But then, because this dress has fabulous stitches here and there, I thought it could be used for a fabulously modern twist on Frankenstien’s Bride (I still think that could work).  And then, I began trying on skins.  When I put on the Julana III, Bleeding Hearts by DaeSkins my inner vampire (yes, I do have one) stood up, pointed at that dress and said “This is fabulous and it is MINE!”  And so, vampire it was.
