Donations & Dressing in the Holiday Spirit

12 12 2009

It was around this time last week that my friend and terrific DJ, Maht Wuyts, was in the middle of his 26.2-hour mahrathon set to raise money for Heifer International’s Eastern Uganda Umbrella Project.  It was an extraordinary event and quite possibly the longest dj set in SL history (that we know of anyway).  Maht was hoping to raise 100,000L during the event and I’m happy to say that we surpassed that goal by about 36,000L.  As promised, he’s given me the donation screen shots to share with all of you.

I was awake for a good portion of the overnight hours,  and then again during Saturday afternoon handing out items and generally making sure Maht survived the process.  And despite the crazy hours, I have to say it was a really fun event.  I’m so thankful to have been a part of it and thankful to all of those who donated, no matter the amount.  Raising that much money in SL is not an easy task, and it took the generosity of a lot of people to make it happen.  Maht was able to get some RL donations as well, which he added to the money he raised in world for a grand total of $600 USD.

Maht does plan to do this event again next year, but in the meantime you can catch him every Sunday at the Velvet from 3 -5 p.m. SLT.  Thanks again to all of you who attended, donated money, and to the designers who gave us items to hand out.

Speaking of those designers, one of the people generous enough to give me items specifically was Sanura Snowpaw of Dreams.   She has a ton of great stuff in her store; everything from clothing to collars, shapes to skins.  I was feeling very xmas-y today and on a whim put on my most recent purchase from her store.  It ended up inspiring a whole outfit, which I thought I’d share – a little holiday spirit neko style.

Two to Tango

21 04 2009

And apparently it takes two tries to get this post published.  *glares at the internet*

Versatility is the key to any good wardrobe.  Having those pieces that can be worn with several different “looks” can easily double the size of your closet, be it real or virtual.  That’s probably my favorite thing about fashion: taking one item and styling it this way and that.  Of course, my SL wardrobe is considerably larger than my RL one, and I often have things in more than one color.  My virtual wardrobe is versatile beyond belief sometimes.  And sometimes, I even surprise myself with what I come up with.  Take the Madrid skirt from Leezu Baxter, for example.  I adore this skirt, and I own it in both red and this gorgeous teal and blue confection called Candy.  I’ve worn both colors recently, in very different ways.

The Dichotomy of Arcadia…and other newness.

18 04 2009

A few weeks ago, I posted about the Tear You Apart shirt by Rara Avis called Prep School Punk in which I raved about how much I adore said shirt. The one down side I described was that it didn’t come in more colors because I wanted more of them.  Well, Azriel Ballyhoo, the designer, saw my post and contacted me to tell me that I had inspired her to make more of these fantastic little shirts.  She had been thinking of it for awhile, but my post got her motivated again.  I am so happy that I inspired this wonderful designer to add more options for this super sexy shirt.  She is releasing five new versions today and, of course, I am going to show them all to you.  This is probably going to be the longest post ever posted, especially if you are reading this on one of the feeds.  But, I think it’s worth it.  Ready?

Dress Me Up Challenge: Arcadia by Ana Lutetia

9 01 2009

My next Dress Me Up Challenge is from Ana Lutetia, who said “hmmm… me thinks neko! ^^”

I know, I know, I’m way behind. I have to admit to being a little excited about this challege because I am somewhat of an Ana Lutetia fangirl. I read a lot of fashion blogs, but hers is definitely one of my favorites. So, her taking the time to give me a challenge, was very cool. I had an outfit in mind the minute I read this challenge, the Plaid Short Set from Riddle and it’s one I’ve blogged before, which is probably not the best plan, but it’s perfect for the look I wanted to end up with. However, I did take this opportunity to go out and find the best tail and ears I could find. I have one pair, and they’re…good. Just..not excitingly good, ya know?

My friend Sutcliffe had this amazing tail on one night, and after getting the landmark from him, I tp’d over to Urban Dare. I recognized the name from Ana’s blog, but I’d not gone to explore it. I’m so glad I took the time now because I LOVE this store. There’s so much to see and do on this SIM that I think I spent at least two hours there, and that’s saying something for she who has been known to tp out of a store in less than a minute. The first thing I bought was the ear and tails. The quality here is amazing.

Now, if you’ve read any of my posts at all, you know I’m a big fan of versatility, and the Neko Furry Tail and Neko Ears are the epitome of that. They come with a ton of options, from tail and ear length, to colors, to sound…a drop down menu is full of fun choices to help you coordinate your tail and ears with your outfit. Or, if you prefer, you can wear the HUD that comes with. I got the version with Bells, and you can toggle the level of the sound as well, which is a nice touch. There are several options to choose from though if bells aren’t your thing. Oh, and people can interact with your tail and ears, petting them, tickling them, etc. And if you’re with someone that has the same tail and ears, they interact with each other as well. How fun is that? The tail was just 200L and the ears, 150L. I’d say that’s more than a bargain for everything you can do with them.
