Quick Look: The Chauffeur?

27 10 2009

Have you ever had one of those days when nothing you put on seems “right”?  I was in that sort of mood one night last week as I stood there trying on look after look after look.  Nothing was speaking to me though until Rhodesy mentioned something about dressing like “The Chauffeur.”  For those that don’t know, The Chauffeur by Duran Duran is my favorite song of all time, and I immediately jumped on the idea.  Of course, I couldn’t do an exact copy of the outfit in the video, but I could maybe get close and by combining some different pieces, we came up with a look that I absolutely adore.

The first item for the look was the Pea Coat from Ibizarre in black.  I adore this coat and have it in almost every color available.  The Pea Coat is just one of those essential fall items, don’t you think?  It’s stylish, comfortable, and perfect for those days when you need a bit more than a light jacket but it’s not time to break out the winter coat just yet.  I added the SLink buckle pants, also in black, because they are the perfect pair of pants for almost any look.

I wanted boots, and I went back and forth over this before finally deciding on the BAX Prestige Boots.  I have to admit, I was a little leery about buying them.  They are somewhat expensive, and I generally refuse to buy any boots that don’t come in a demo version.  But I was assured an exact fit by the CSR at the store, so I decided to take a risk.  And wow, am I so glad I bought them!  These boots are FANTASTIC!  It took me a little while to get them fit right, but with the built-in sizing script, it was far easier than doing it by hand.  The fitting system is genius, and I love that I can change the color of the zipper on the back and the sole.  They also come with an AO and sounds if you should choose to use them.  These boots are so sexy and chic…definitely my favorite by far.

I do not have a Chauffeur’s hat, alas, but I did have something close: the Sunday hair by Magika, which comes with this cute hat.  I really liked the ponytail along the side of this hair and the way it frames my face well.  I’ve been wearing a lot of hair from Magika recently.  The selection there just gets better and better.

The skin is ::Exodi:: of course, since I never wear anything else.  Though I do feel the need to promise to have Ryker’s virtual babies if she’ll just give us more makeup for Shiloh.  I NEED more, Ryker! *bats her eyelashes*

My new friend Annabella Donner saw me the other day and said I looked like I’d stepped right of the pages of 1960’s British Vogue, which was a wonderful compliment, and since Duran Duran are from England, I’ll call this look a success.  However you describe this outfit…British Vogue, The Chauffeur, Fall Chic…I love it and will definitely be wearing it a lot this season.

Lazy Sunday

30 06 2009
After a very busy week and an even busier weekend, I decided that Sunday would be a lazy day by the beach sort of day.  I had a lovely morning, but then my evening was busier than I had expected, so this post is going up on Monday instead of Sunday…ah well.
Nothing feels more appropriate for a lazy Sunday on the beach than a tank top and shorts, I have to say.  For those of you who have not heard, ::Exodi:: is having a 50% off sale until July 3rd with 100% of the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Make-A-Wish is a wonderful charity, and I think this sale is a wonderful way for Ryker Beck to commemorate the life of someone whose talent she admired.  I went and bought everything in the store I had been wanting but did not already own; knowing that, while I did spend a lot of lindens, they were going to help make a wish come true for someone out there.  And really, what better way to relax on a lazy Sunday than by knowing you’ve helped someone even in some small way.

For lounging on the beach, I chose some of my new favorites from ::Exodi::–the Lilian Tank and the Nadia Shorts.

Caged Bird

invite

Tonight at 6 p.m. slt, my art exhibit opens at the Rara Avis Gallery.  It’s called Et in Arcadia Ego and is a collection of some of my favorite self-portraits.  I’ve posted the Artist Statement at the end of this post so you can get a better feel for what the show is about.  The lovely ladies of Rara Avis, Azriel Ballyhoo and Neneveh Teskat, will be in attendance, and Nineveh is going to be our DJ for the event.  Even if you can’t make the party, do stop by the gallery.  The show will be up until the end of July.  And besides, a trip to Rara Avis is always in order.

One of my most recent self-portraits combined wings and lingerie.  I found the best store for wings, and I thought I’d share those with you here.

‘Tis Almost Fairy Time

20 06 2009

“Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame!” ~William Butler Yeats

This Sunday, we’re celebrating Midsummer by having a “Release Your Inner Fae” party at MDR.  It’s the first party we’ve thrown in the new studio, and though it’s a smaller space, there is still plenty of room for dancing and fairy fun.  DJ Bridgitte Boucher will be spinning for us, and we can’t wait to hear what kind of mix she’s come up with for this event.  Also, we’ve started a new program at MDR: the Affiliate of the Month.  Each month we’ll have a different designer/store sponsoring the party.  It’s our way of showing some of our favorite places to our clientele.  This month’s Affiliate is Wishbox.  Rhodesy is wearing the Water Fae costume by Wishbox in the party ad below.

We first came across Wishbox last summer when MDR had a Midsummer party.  Looking for fairy costumes was a lot of fun, and we went to several stores.  Wishbox was one of our favorites and the place Rhodesy finally found the costume she was looking for.

AYUMI x 3

28 04 2009

A few weeks ago, Ayumi Shinn dropped a review item on the SL Bloggers Network in world, a cleavage enhancer that she designed and is selling in her store.  I’d never heard of her store, [AYUMI], before so I decided to go check it out.  She has some really cute stuff, but my favorite was the Button Up Shirt with it’s plunging necklace and thick belt underneath the bust line.  It comes in five colors, and she’s selling them for 150L each, or 250L for the fatpack.  Never one to pass up a deal, I grabbed the fatpack and decided to see what kind of looks I could throw together using this daringly sexy shirt.

Two to Tango

21 04 2009

And apparently it takes two tries to get this post published.  *glares at the internet*

Versatility is the key to any good wardrobe.  Having those pieces that can be worn with several different “looks” can easily double the size of your closet, be it real or virtual.  That’s probably my favorite thing about fashion: taking one item and styling it this way and that.  Of course, my SL wardrobe is considerably larger than my RL one, and I often have things in more than one color.  My virtual wardrobe is versatile beyond belief sometimes.  And sometimes, I even surprise myself with what I come up with.  Take the Madrid skirt from Leezu Baxter, for example.  I adore this skirt, and I own it in both red and this gorgeous teal and blue confection called Candy.  I’ve worn both colors recently, in very different ways.
