Something Wicked This Way Comes

Thursday, October 29th, at 7 p.m. slt MDR will be throwing their “Something Wicked This Way Comes” party in celebration of the most important holiday of the year: Halloween.  Our affiliate for this month is Rara Avis

I’ve discussed Rara Avis in this blog before (here, here, and here to be exact) and they are one of my favorite design teams.  Nineveh Teskat and Azriel Ballyhoo have amassed an eclectic mix of designs that showcase their talents and eye for detail.  They have both male and female clothing, and even some unisex looks that I think are visually stunning.  But I suppose I could say that about all of their designs.  Two of my all time favorite inventory items are from Rara Avis, which I blogged about in those previous posts…the Unlovely Baby dress and the Arcadia shirt, and I’m not just saying that because it was named after me.  Rhodesy and I are really excited to have these incredibly talented designers sponsoring our Halloween party this year.

And though I have blogged them before, I’d be remiss if I did not show you a couple of the newer releases at Rara Avis, the second of which will be available in an exclusive color for FREE at the MDR party.   But first, I want to show you a design that was released a few months ago: Almost Diamonds.

Gothic Opulence

15 07 2009

With all of the bright summer fun I’ve been having lately, it was inevitable that my Gothy side would demand to come out and play.  A few weeks ago, I met Sascha Frangilli, and she invited me to her store, Sascha’s Designs.  If you’ve not been there, you should take some time to go and look around.  It’s huge, and the sheer number of gowns she has available is amazing.  While perusing the store and chatting with Sascha, my eyes were drawn to a dress called Black Widow, and I knew I had to have it.  Sascha was kind enough to gift it to me, and I decided to blog it the next day.  Well, things happen in RL and SL, and I get behind on my blogging.  I know, shocking  isn’t it?  But finally, tonight I had a reason to get it out of the “to blog” folder, dust it off, and put it on.  Because not only was my inner Goth ready to play, she was also feeling a bit princess-y.  Those two sides of my personality do not work together very often, but when they do the result is usually something I like to call “Gothic Opulence.”

Turn Up The Heat

7 07 2009
And that is exactly what Zaara has done with her two new swimsuit releases.  After I got the notecard yesterday, I raced over there as fast as I could to get my hands on these hot little swimsuits and was really excited to snag them.  I mean, can a girl ever have too many sexy swimsuits?

The first thing I saw upon entering the store was the Esha bikini display.  Esha is a gorgeous print bikini that comes in six different colors.  You can buy them individually, in mini-fatpacks of glitter (silver, coffee, black gold) and tropical (lime crush, blueberry cream, apricot mauve), or in the standard mega fatpack of all colors.  And, if you buy the mega fatpack, you get a special edition color: crimson.  I stood there for several minutes debating on which option to choose.  I knew I wanted at least three of them; but, in the end the crimson was too tempting, and I bought the fatpack.
My favorite of the glitter trio is silver.

‘Tis Almost Fairy Time

20 06 2009

“Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame!” ~William Butler Yeats

This Sunday, we’re celebrating Midsummer by having a “Release Your Inner Fae” party at MDR.  It’s the first party we’ve thrown in the new studio, and though it’s a smaller space, there is still plenty of room for dancing and fairy fun.  DJ Bridgitte Boucher will be spinning for us, and we can’t wait to hear what kind of mix she’s come up with for this event.  Also, we’ve started a new program at MDR: the Affiliate of the Month.  Each month we’ll have a different designer/store sponsoring the party.  It’s our way of showing some of our favorite places to our clientele.  This month’s Affiliate is Wishbox.  Rhodesy is wearing the Water Fae costume by Wishbox in the party ad below.

We first came across Wishbox last summer when MDR had a Midsummer party.  Looking for fairy costumes was a lot of fun, and we went to several stores.  Wishbox was one of our favorites and the place Rhodesy finally found the costume she was looking for.

Lucretia, My Reflection

27 05 2009

I love it when an outfit immediately has me singing lyrics to one of my favorite songs, and this is the case with a new release, Lucretia, from Reasonable Desires.  As soon as I saw the add for this and started spontaneously singing Sisters of Mercy, I knew I had to have it.  Austie Pegler was generous enough to send it to me in addition to all of the other new realeases, some of which I will be showing you in upcoming posts.  But for now…

I hear the sons of the city and dispossessed,
Get down, get undressed
Get pretty but you and me,
We got the kingdom, we got the key
We got the empire, now as then,
We don’t doubt, we don’t take direction,
Lucretia, my reflection, dance the ghost with me
